Man, created from

O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allāh, through whom¹ you ask one another,² and the wombs.³ Indeed Allāh is ever,⁴ over you, an Observer.⁵

It is He who created you from clay and then decreed a term¹ and a specified time [known] to Him;² then [still] you are in dispute.

And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud.

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud.

He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud."

He created man from a sperm-drop; then at once¹ he is a clear adversary.

Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and then We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?

O people, if you should be in doubt about the Resurrection, then [consider that] indeed, We created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot, and then from a lump of flesh, formed and unformed¹ - that We may show you.² And We settle in the wombs whom We will for a specified term, then We bring you out as a child, and then [We develop you] that you may reach your [time of] maturity. And among you is he who is taken in [early] death, and among you is he who is returned to the most decrepit [old] age so that he knows, after [once having] knowledge, nothing. And you see the earth barren, but when We send down upon it rain, it quivers and swells and grows [something] of every beautiful kind.

And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay.

Then We placed him as a sperm-drop¹ in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb].

Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allāh, the best of creators.¹

And it is He who has created from water [i.e., semen] a human being and made him [a relative by] lineage and marriage. And ever is your Lord competent [concerning creation].

And of His signs is that He created you from dust; then, suddenly you were human beings dispersing [throughout the earth].

Who perfected everything which He created and began the creation of man from clay.

Then He made his posterity out of the extract of a liquid disdained.

Then He proportioned him and breathed into him from His [created] soul¹ and made for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect]; little are you grateful.

And Allāh created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop; then He made you mates. And no female conceives nor does she give birth except with His knowledge. And no aged person is granted [additional] life nor is his lifespan lessened but that it is in a register. Indeed, that for Allāh is easy.

Does man not consider that We created him from a [mere] sperm-drop - then at once¹ he is a clear adversary?

And he presents for Us an example¹ and forgets his [own] creation. He says, "Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?"

Then inquire of them, [O Muḥammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created them [i.e., men] from sticky clay.

He created you from one soul. Then He made from it its mate, and He produced for you from the grazing livestock eight mates.¹ He creates you in the wombs of your mothers, creation after creation, within three darknesses.² That is Allāh, your Lord; to Him belongs dominion. There is no deity except Him, so how are you averted?

It is He who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot; then He brings you out as a child; then [He develops you] that you reach your [time of] maturity, then [further] that you become elders. And among you is he who is taken in death before [that], so that you reach a specified term;¹ and perhaps you will use reason.

O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allāh is the most righteous¹ of you. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing and Aware.

He created man from clay like [that of] pottery.

We have created you, so why do you not believe?

Have you seen that which you emit?¹

Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator?

Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?

Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allāh] created [his form] and proportioned [him]

And made of him two mates, the male and the female.

Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?

Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned?

Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture¹ that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing.

Did We not create you from a liquid disdained?

And We placed it in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb]

For a known extent.

And We determined [it], and excellent [are We] to determine.

From what thing [i.e., substance] did He create him?

From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him;¹

So let man observe from what he was created.

He was created from a fluid, ejected,

Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.

Indeed, He [i.e., Allāh], to return him [to life], is Able.

Created man from a clinging substance.
