ثُمَّلَأٓتِيَنَّهُممِّنۢبَيۡنِأَيۡدِيهِمۡوَمِنۡخَلۡفِهِمۡوَعَنۡأَيۡمَٰنِهِمۡوَعَنشَمَآئِلِهِمۡۖوَلَاتَجِدُأَكۡثَرَهُمۡشَٰكِرِينَ١٧
Saheeh International

Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You]."

ثُمَّThumma
لَـَٔاتِيَنَّهُمlaatiyannahum
مِّنۢmin
بَيْنِbayni
أَيْدِيهِمْaydeehim
وَمِنْwamin
خَلْفِهِمْkhalfihim
وَعَنْwaAAan
أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْaymanihim
وَعَنwaAAan
شَمَآئِلِهِمْ ۖshamailihim
وَلَاwala
تَجِدُtajidu
أَكْثَرَهُمْaktharahum
شَـٰكِرِينَshakireena
أَوَلَمۡيَرَوۡاْإِلَىٰمَاخَلَقَٱللَّهُمِنشَيۡءٖيَتَفَيَّؤُاْظِلَٰلُهُۥعَنِٱلۡيَمِينِوَٱلشَّمَآئِلِسُجَّدٗالِّلَّهِوَهُمۡدَٰخِرُونَ٤٨
Saheeh International

Have they not considered what things Allāh has created? Their shadows incline to the right and to the left, prostrating to Allāh, while they [i.e., those creations] are humble.

أَوَلَمْAwalam
يَرَوْا۟yaraw
إِلَىٰila
مَاma
خَلَقَkhalaqa
ٱللَّهُAllahu
مِنmin
شَىْءٍۢshayin
يَتَفَيَّؤُا۟yatafayyao
ظِلَـٰلُهُۥthilaluhu
عَنِAAani
ٱلْيَمِينِalyameeni
وَٱلشَّمَآئِلِwaalshshamaili
سُجَّدًۭاsujjadan
لِّلَّهِlillahi
وَهُمْwahum
دَٰخِرُونَdakhiroona
۞ وَتَرَىٱلشَّمۡسَإِذَاطَلَعَتتَّزَٰوَرُعَنكَهۡفِهِمۡذَاتَٱلۡيَمِينِوَإِذَاغَرَبَتتَّقۡرِضُهُمۡذَاتَٱلشِّمَالِوَهُمۡفِيفَجۡوَةٖمِّنۡهُۚذَٰلِكَمِنۡءَايَٰتِٱللَّهِۗمَنيَهۡدِٱللَّهُفَهُوَٱلۡمُهۡتَدِۖوَمَنيُضۡلِلۡفَلَنتَجِدَلَهُۥوَلِيّٗامُّرۡشِدٗا١٧
Saheeh International

And [had you been present], you would see the sun when it rose, inclining away from their cave on the right, and when it set, passing away from them on the left, while they were [lying] within an open space thereof. That was from the signs of Allāh. He whom Allāh guides is the [rightly] guided, but he whom He sends astray - never will you find for him a protecting guide.

۞ وَتَرَىWatara
ٱلشَّمْسَalshshamsa
إِذَاitha
طَلَعَتtalaAAat
تَّزَٰوَرُtazawaru
عَنAAan
كَهْفِهِمْkahfihim
ذَاتَthata
ٱلْيَمِينِalyameeni
وَإِذَاwaitha
غَرَبَتgharabat
تَّقْرِضُهُمْtaqriduhum
ذَاتَthata
ٱلشِّمَالِalshshimali
وَهُمْwahum
فِىfee
فَجْوَةٍۢfajwatin
مِّنْهُ ۚminhu
ذَٰلِكَthalika
مِنْmin
ءَايَـٰتِayati
ٱللَّهِ ۗAllahi
مَنman
يَهْدِyahdi
ٱللَّهُAllahu
فَهُوَfahuwa
ٱلْمُهْتَدِ ۖalmuhtadi
وَمَنwaman
يُضْلِلْyudlil
فَلَنfalan
تَجِدَtajida
لَهُۥlahu
وَلِيًّۭاwaliyyan
مُّرْشِدًۭاmurshidan
وَتَحۡسَبُهُمۡأَيۡقَاظٗاوَهُمۡرُقُودٞۚوَنُقَلِّبُهُمۡذَاتَٱلۡيَمِينِوَذَاتَٱلشِّمَالِۖوَكَلۡبُهُمبَٰسِطٞذِرَاعَيۡهِبِٱلۡوَصِيدِۚلَوِٱطَّلَعۡتَعَلَيۡهِمۡلَوَلَّيۡتَمِنۡهُمۡفِرَارٗاوَلَمُلِئۡتَمِنۡهُمۡرُعۡبٗا١٨
Saheeh International

And you would think them awake, while they were asleep. And We turned them to the right and to the left, while their dog stretched his forelegs at the entrance. If you had looked at them, you would have turned from them in flight and been filled by them with terror.

وَتَحْسَبُهُمْWatahsabuhum
أَيْقَاظًۭاayqathan
وَهُمْwahum
رُقُودٌۭ ۚruqoodun
وَنُقَلِّبُهُمْwanuqallibuhum
ذَاتَthata
ٱلْيَمِينِalyameeni
وَذَاتَwathata
ٱلشِّمَالِ ۖalshshimali
وَكَلْبُهُمwakalbuhum
بَـٰسِطٌۭbasitun
ذِرَاعَيْهِthiraAAayhi
بِٱلْوَصِيدِ ۚbialwaseedi
لَوِlawi
ٱطَّلَعْتَittalaAAta
عَلَيْهِمْAAalayhim
لَوَلَّيْتَlawallayta
مِنْهُمْminhum
فِرَارًۭاfiraran
وَلَمُلِئْتَwalamulita
مِنْهُمْminhum
رُعْبًۭاruAAban
لَقَدۡكَانَلِسَبَإٖفِيمَسۡكَنِهِمۡءَايَةٞۖجَنَّتَانِعَنيَمِينٖوَشِمَالٖۖكُلُواْمِنرِّزۡقِرَبِّكُمۡوَٱشۡكُرُواْلَهُۥۚبَلۡدَةٞطَيِّبَةٞوَرَبٌّغَفُورٞ١٥
Saheeh International

There was for [the tribe of] Saba’ in their dwelling place a sign: two [fields of] gardens on the right and on the left. [They were told], "Eat from the provisions of your Lord and be grateful to Him. A good land [have you], and a forgiving Lord."

لَقَدْLaqad
كَانَkana
لِسَبَإٍۢlisabain
فِىfee
مَسْكَنِهِمْmaskanihim
ءَايَةٌۭ ۖayatun
جَنَّتَانِjannatani
عَنAAan
يَمِينٍۢyameenin
وَشِمَالٍۢ ۖwashimalin
كُلُوا۟kuloo
مِنmin
رِّزْقِrizqi
رَبِّكُمْrabbikum
وَٱشْكُرُوا۟waoshkuroo
لَهُۥ ۚlahu
بَلْدَةٌۭbaldatun
طَيِّبَةٌۭtayyibatun
وَرَبٌّwarabbun
غَفُورٌۭghafoorun
إِذۡيَتَلَقَّىٱلۡمُتَلَقِّيَانِعَنِٱلۡيَمِينِوَعَنِٱلشِّمَالِقَعِيدٞ١٧
Saheeh International

When the two receivers [i.e., recording angels] receive,1 seated on the right and on the left.

إِذْIth
يَتَلَقَّىyatalaqqa
ٱلْمُتَلَقِّيَانِalmutalaqqiyani
عَنِAAani
ٱلْيَمِينِalyameeni
وَعَنِwaAAani
ٱلشِّمَالِalshshimali
قَعِيدٌۭqaAAeedun
وَأَمَّامَنۡأُوتِيَكِتَٰبَهُۥبِشِمَالِهِۦفَيَقُولُيَٰلَيۡتَنِيلَمۡأُوتَكِتَٰبِيَهۡ٢٥
Saheeh International

But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record

وَأَمَّاWaamma
مَنْman
أُوتِىَootiya
كِتَـٰبَهُۥkitabahu
بِشِمَالِهِۦbishimalihi
فَيَقُولُfayaqoolu
يَـٰلَيْتَنِىyalaytanee
لَمْlam
أُوتَoota
كِتَـٰبِيَهْkitabiyah
فَمَالِٱلَّذِينَكَفَرُواْقِبَلَكَمُهۡطِعِينَ٣٦
Saheeh International

So what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muḥammad],

فَمَالِFamali
ٱلَّذِينَallatheena
كَفَرُوا۟kafaroo
قِبَلَكَqibalaka
مُهْطِعِينَmuhtiAAeena
عَنِٱلۡيَمِينِوَعَنِٱلشِّمَالِعِزِينَ٣٧
Saheeh International

[To sit] on [your] right and [your] left in separate groups?1

عَنِAAani
ٱلْيَمِينِalyameeni
وَعَنِwaAAani
ٱلشِّمَالِalshshimali
عِزِينَAAizeena
وَٱلَّذِينَكَفَرُواْبِـَٔايَٰتِنَاهُمۡأَصۡحَٰبُٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ١٩
Saheeh International

But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left.1

وَٱلَّذِينَWaallatheena
كَفَرُوا۟kafaroo
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiayatina
هُمْhum
أَصْحَـٰبُashabu
ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِalmashamati
