زُيِّنَلِلنَّاسِحُبُّٱلشَّهَوَٰتِمِنَٱلنِّسَآءِوَٱلۡبَنِينَوَٱلۡقَنَٰطِيرِٱلۡمُقَنطَرَةِمِنَٱلذَّهَبِوَٱلۡفِضَّةِوَٱلۡخَيۡلِٱلۡمُسَوَّمَةِوَٱلۡأَنۡعَٰمِوَٱلۡحَرۡثِۗذَٰلِكَمَتَٰعُٱلۡحَيَوٰةِٱلدُّنۡيَاۖوَٱللَّهُعِندَهُۥحُسۡنُٱلۡمَـَٔابِ١٤
Saheeh International

Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allāh has with Him the best return [i.e., Paradise].

زُيِّنَZuyyina
لِلنَّاسِlilnnasi
حُبُّhubbu
ٱلشَّهَوَٰتِalshshahawati
مِنَmina
ٱلنِّسَآءِalnnisai
وَٱلْبَنِينَwaalbaneena
وَٱلْقَنَـٰطِيرِwaalqanateeri
ٱلْمُقَنطَرَةِalmuqantarati
مِنَmina
ٱلذَّهَبِalththahabi
وَٱلْفِضَّةِwaalfiddati
وَٱلْخَيْلِwaalkhayli
ٱلْمُسَوَّمَةِalmusawwamati
وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِwaalanAAami
وَٱلْحَرْثِ ۗwaalharthi
ذَٰلِكَthalika
مَتَـٰعُmataAAu
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِalhayati
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖalddunya
وَٱللَّهُwaAllahu
عِندَهُۥAAindahu
حُسْنُhusnu
ٱلْمَـَٔابِalmaabi
وَٱلۡخَيۡلَوَٱلۡبِغَالَوَٱلۡحَمِيرَلِتَرۡكَبُوهَاوَزِينَةٗۚوَيَخۡلُقُمَالَاتَعۡلَمُونَ٨
Saheeh International

And [He created] the horses, mules and donkeys for you to ride and [as] adornment. And He creates that which you do not know.

وَٱلْخَيْلَWaalkhayla
وَٱلْبِغَالَwaalbighala
وَٱلْحَمِيرَwaalhameera
لِتَرْكَبُوهَاlitarkabooha
وَزِينَةًۭ ۚwazeenatan
وَيَخْلُقُwayakhluqu
مَاma
لَاla
تَعْلَمُونَtaAAlamoona
وَٱسۡتَفۡزِزۡمَنِٱسۡتَطَعۡتَمِنۡهُمبِصَوۡتِكَوَأَجۡلِبۡعَلَيۡهِمبِخَيۡلِكَوَرَجِلِكَوَشَارِكۡهُمۡفِيٱلۡأَمۡوَٰلِوَٱلۡأَوۡلَٰدِوَعِدۡهُمۡۚوَمَايَعِدُهُمُٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُإِلَّاغُرُورًا٦٤
Saheeh International

And incite [to senselessness] whoever you can among them with your voice and assault them with your horses and foot soldiers and become a partner in their wealth and their children and promise them." But Satan does not promise them except delusion.

وَٱسْتَفْزِزْWaistafziz
مَنِmani
ٱسْتَطَعْتَistataAAta
مِنْهُمminhum
بِصَوْتِكَbisawtika
وَأَجْلِبْwaajlib
عَلَيْهِمAAalayhim
بِخَيْلِكَbikhaylika
وَرَجِلِكَwarajlika
وَشَارِكْهُمْwasharikhum
فِىfee
ٱلْأَمْوَٰلِalamwali
وَٱلْأَوْلَـٰدِwaalawladi
وَعِدْهُمْ ۚwaAAidhum
وَمَاwama
يَعِدُهُمُyaAAiduhumu
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُalshshaytanu
إِلَّاilla
غُرُورًاghurooran
إِذۡعُرِضَعَلَيۡهِبِٱلۡعَشِيِّٱلصَّٰفِنَٰتُٱلۡجِيَادُ٣١
Saheeh International

[Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses.

إِذْIth
عُرِضَAAurida
عَلَيْهِAAalayhi
بِٱلْعَشِىِّbialAAashiyyi
ٱلصَّـٰفِنَـٰتُalssafinatu
ٱلْجِيَادُaljiyadu
فَقَالَإِنِّيٓأَحۡبَبۡتُحُبَّٱلۡخَيۡرِعَنذِكۡرِرَبِّيحَتَّىٰتَوَارَتۡبِٱلۡحِجَابِ٣٢
Saheeh International

And he said, "Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord until it [i.e., the sun] disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]."

فَقَالَFaqala
إِنِّىٓinnee
أَحْبَبْتُahbabtu
حُبَّhubba
ٱلْخَيْرِalkhayri
عَنAAan
ذِكْرِthikri
رَبِّىrabbee
حَتَّىٰhatta
تَوَارَتْtawarat
بِٱلْحِجَابِbialhijabi
رُدُّوهَاعَلَيَّۖفَطَفِقَمَسۡحَۢابِٱلسُّوقِوَٱلۡأَعۡنَاقِ٣٣
Saheeh International

[He said], "Return them to me," and set about striking1 [their] legs and necks.

رُدُّوهَاRuddooha
عَلَىَّ ۖAAalayya
فَطَفِقَfatafiqa
مَسْحًۢاmashan
بِٱلسُّوقِbialssooqi
وَٱلْأَعْنَاقِwaalaAAnaqi
وَمَآأَفَآءَٱللَّهُعَلَىٰرَسُولِهِۦمِنۡهُمۡفَمَآأَوۡجَفۡتُمۡعَلَيۡهِمِنۡخَيۡلٖوَلَارِكَابٖوَلَٰكِنَّٱللَّهَيُسَلِّطُرُسُلَهُۥعَلَىٰمَنيَشَآءُۚوَٱللَّهُعَلَىٰكُلِّشَيۡءٖقَدِيرٞ٦
Saheeh International

And what Allāh restored [of property] to His Messenger from them - you did not spur for it [in an expedition] any horses or camels,1 but Allāh gives His messengers power over whom He wills, and Allāh is over all things competent.

وَمَآWama
أَفَآءَafaa
ٱللَّهُAllahu
عَلَىٰAAala
رَسُولِهِۦrasoolihi
مِنْهُمْminhum
فَمَآfama
أَوْجَفْتُمْawjaftum
عَلَيْهِAAalayhi
مِنْmin
خَيْلٍۢkhaylin
وَلَاwala
رِكَابٍۢrikabin
وَلَـٰكِنَّwalakinna
ٱللَّهَAllaha
يُسَلِّطُyusallitu
رُسُلَهُۥrusulahu
عَلَىٰAAala
مَنman
يَشَآءُ ۚyashao
وَٱللَّهُwaAllahu
عَلَىٰAAala
كُلِّkulli
شَىْءٍۢshayin
قَدِيرٌۭqadeerun
وَٱلۡعَٰدِيَٰتِضَبۡحٗا١
Saheeh International

By the racers, panting,1

وَٱلْعَـٰدِيَـٰتِWaalAAadiyati
ضَبْحًۭاdabhan
فَٱلۡمُورِيَٰتِقَدۡحٗا٢
Saheeh International

And the producers of sparks [when] striking1

فَٱلْمُورِيَـٰتِFaalmooriyati
قَدْحًۭاqadhan
فَٱلۡمُغِيرَٰتِصُبۡحٗا٣
Saheeh International

And the chargers at dawn,1

فَٱلْمُغِيرَٰتِFaalmugheerati
صُبْحًۭاsubhan
فَأَثَرۡنَبِهِۦنَقۡعٗا٤
Saheeh International

Stirring up thereby [clouds of] dust,

فَأَثَرْنَFaatharna
بِهِۦbihi
نَقْعًۭاnaqAAan
فَوَسَطۡنَبِهِۦجَمۡعًا٥
Saheeh International

Arriving thereby in the center1 collectively,

فَوَسَطْنَFawasatna
بِهِۦbihi
جَمْعًاjamAAan
إِنَّٱلۡإِنسَٰنَلِرَبِّهِۦلَكَنُودٞ٦
Saheeh International

Indeed mankind, to his Lord, is ungrateful.

إِنَّInna
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَalinsana
لِرَبِّهِۦlirabbihi
لَكَنُودٌۭlakanoodun
وَإِنَّهُۥعَلَىٰذَٰلِكَلَشَهِيدٞ٧
Saheeh International

And indeed, he is to that a witness.1

وَإِنَّهُۥWainnahu
عَلَىٰAAala
ذَٰلِكَthalika
لَشَهِيدٌۭlashaheedun
