وَمَنيَرۡغَبُعَنمِّلَّةِإِبۡرَٰهِـۧمَإِلَّامَنسَفِهَنَفۡسَهُۥۚوَلَقَدِٱصۡطَفَيۡنَٰهُفِيٱلدُّنۡيَاۖوَإِنَّهُۥفِيٱلۡأٓخِرَةِلَمِنَٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ١٣٠
Saheeh International

And who would be averse to the religion of Abraham except one who makes a fool of himself. And We had chosen him in this world, and indeed he, in the Hereafter, will be among the righteous.

وَمَنWaman
يَرْغَبُyarghabu
عَنAAan
مِّلَّةِmillati
إِبْرَٰهِـۧمَibraheema
إِلَّاilla
مَنman
سَفِهَsafiha
نَفْسَهُۥ ۚnafsahu
وَلَقَدِwalaqadi
ٱصْطَفَيْنَـٰهُistafaynahu
فِىfee
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖalddunya
وَإِنَّهُۥwainnahu
فِىfee
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِalakhirati
لَمِنَlamina
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَalssaliheena
وَإِذَاقِيلَلَهُمۡءَامِنُواْكَمَآءَامَنَٱلنَّاسُقَالُوٓاْأَنُؤۡمِنُكَمَآءَامَنَٱلسُّفَهَآءُۗأَلَآإِنَّهُمۡهُمُٱلسُّفَهَآءُوَلَٰكِنلَّايَعۡلَمُونَ١٣
Saheeh International

And when it is said to them, "Believe as the people have believed," they say, "Should we believe as the foolish have believed?" Unquestionably, it is they who are the foolish, but they know [it] not.

وَإِذَاWaitha
قِيلَqeela
لَهُمْlahum
ءَامِنُوا۟aminoo
كَمَآkama
ءَامَنَamana
ٱلنَّاسُalnnasu
قَالُوٓا۟qaloo
أَنُؤْمِنُanuminu
كَمَآkama
ءَامَنَamana
ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ ۗalssufahao
أَلَآala
إِنَّهُمْinnahum
هُمُhumu
ٱلسُّفَهَآءُalssufahao
وَلَـٰكِنwalakin
لَّاla
يَعْلَمُونَyaAAlamoona
۞ سَيَقُولُٱلسُّفَهَآءُمِنَٱلنَّاسِمَاوَلَّىٰهُمۡعَنقِبۡلَتِهِمُٱلَّتِيكَانُواْعَلَيۡهَاۚقُللِّلَّهِٱلۡمَشۡرِقُوَٱلۡمَغۡرِبُۚيَهۡدِيمَنيَشَآءُإِلَىٰصِرَٰطٖمُّسۡتَقِيمٖ١٤٢
Saheeh International

The foolish among the people will say, "What has turned them away from their qiblah,1 which they used to face?"2 Say, "To Allāh belongs the east and the west. He guides whom He wills to a straight path."

۞ سَيَقُولُSayaqoolu
ٱلسُّفَهَآءُalssufahao
مِنَmina
ٱلنَّاسِalnnasi
مَاma
وَلَّىٰهُمْwallahum
عَنAAan
قِبْلَتِهِمُqiblatihimu
ٱلَّتِىallatee
كَانُوا۟kanoo
عَلَيْهَا ۚAAalayha
قُلqul
لِّلَّهِlillahi
ٱلْمَشْرِقُalmashriqu
وَٱلْمَغْرِبُ ۚwaalmaghribu
يَهْدِىyahdee
مَنman
يَشَآءُyashao
إِلَىٰila
صِرَٰطٍۢsiratin
مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢmustaqeemin
وَٱخۡتَارَمُوسَىٰقَوۡمَهُۥسَبۡعِينَرَجُلٗالِّمِيقَٰتِنَاۖفَلَمَّآأَخَذَتۡهُمُٱلرَّجۡفَةُقَالَرَبِّلَوۡشِئۡتَأَهۡلَكۡتَهُممِّنقَبۡلُوَإِيَّٰيَۖأَتُهۡلِكُنَابِمَافَعَلَٱلسُّفَهَآءُمِنَّآۖإِنۡهِيَإِلَّافِتۡنَتُكَتُضِلُّبِهَامَنتَشَآءُوَتَهۡدِيمَنتَشَآءُۖأَنتَوَلِيُّنَافَٱغۡفِرۡلَنَاوَٱرۡحَمۡنَاۖوَأَنتَخَيۡرُٱلۡغَٰفِرِينَ١٥٥
Saheeh International

And Moses chose from his people seventy men for Our appointment.1 And when the earthquake seized them,2 he said, "My Lord, if You had willed, You could have destroyed them before and me [as well]. Would You destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? This is not but Your trial by which You send astray whom You will and guide whom You will. You are our Protector, so forgive us and have mercy upon us; and You are the best of forgivers.

وَٱخْتَارَWaikhtara
مُوسَىٰmoosa
قَوْمَهُۥqawmahu
سَبْعِينَsabAAeena
رَجُلًۭاrajulan
لِّمِيقَـٰتِنَا ۖlimeeqatina
فَلَمَّآfalamma
أَخَذَتْهُمُakhathathumu
ٱلرَّجْفَةُalrrajfatu
قَالَqala
رَبِّrabbi
لَوْlaw
شِئْتَshita
أَهْلَكْتَهُمahlaktahum
مِّنmin
قَبْلُqablu
وَإِيَّـٰىَ ۖwaiyyaya
أَتُهْلِكُنَاatuhlikuna
بِمَاbima
فَعَلَfaAAala
ٱلسُّفَهَآءُalssufahao
مِنَّآ ۖminna
إِنْin
هِىَhiya
إِلَّاilla
فِتْنَتُكَfitnatuka
تُضِلُّtudillu
بِهَاbiha
مَنman
تَشَآءُtashao
وَتَهْدِىwatahdee
مَنman
تَشَآءُ ۖtashao
أَنتَanta
وَلِيُّنَاwaliyyuna
فَٱغْفِرْfaighfir
لَنَاlana
وَٱرْحَمْنَا ۖwairhamna
وَأَنتَwaanta
خَيْرُkhayru
ٱلْغَـٰفِرِينَalghafireena
قَالَٱلۡمَلَأُٱلَّذِينَكَفَرُواْمِنقَوۡمِهِۦٓإِنَّالَنَرَىٰكَفِيسَفَاهَةٖوَإِنَّالَنَظُنُّكَمِنَٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ٦٦
Saheeh International

Said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people, "Indeed, we see you in foolishness, and indeed, we think you are of the liars."

قَالَQala
ٱلْمَلَأُalmalao
ٱلَّذِينَallatheena
كَفَرُوا۟kafaroo
مِنmin
قَوْمِهِۦٓqawmihi
إِنَّاinna
لَنَرَىٰكَlanaraka
فِىfee
سَفَاهَةٍۢsafahatin
وَإِنَّاwainna
لَنَظُنُّكَlanathunnuka
مِنَmina
ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَalkathibeena
قَالَيَٰقَوۡمِلَيۡسَبِيسَفَاهَةٞوَلَٰكِنِّيرَسُولٞمِّنرَّبِّٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ٦٧
Saheeh International

[Hūd] said, "O my people, there is not foolishness in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.

قَالَQala
يَـٰقَوْمِyaqawmi
لَيْسَlaysa
بِىbee
سَفَاهَةٌۭsafahatun
وَلَـٰكِنِّىwalakinnee
رَسُولٌۭrasoolun
مِّنmin
رَّبِّrabbi
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَalAAalameena
وَأَنَّهُۥكَانَيَقُولُسَفِيهُنَاعَلَىٱللَّهِشَطَطٗا٤
Saheeh International

And that our foolish one [i.e., Iblees]1 has been saying about Allāh an excessive transgression.

وَأَنَّهُۥWaannahu
كَانَkana
يَقُولُyaqoolu
سَفِيهُنَاsafeehuna
عَلَىAAala
ٱللَّهِAllahi
شَطَطًۭاshatatan
