Example

Their example is that of one who kindled a fire, but when it illuminated what was around him, Allāh took away their light and left them in darkness [so] they could not see.

The example of those who disbelieve is like that of one who shouts at what hears nothing but calls and cries [i.e., cattle or sheep] - deaf, dumb and blind, so they do not understand.

O you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities with reminders [of it] or injury as does one who spends his wealth [only] to be seen by the people and does not believe in Allāh and the Last Day. His example is like that of a [large] smooth stone upon which is dust and is hit by a downpour that leaves it bare. They are unable [to keep] anything of what they have earned. And Allāh does not guide the disbelieving people.

Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allāh¹ is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was.

The example of the two parties is like the blind and deaf, and the seeing and hearing. Are they equal in comparison? Then, will you not remember?

For those who do not believe in the Hereafter is the description [i.e., an attribute] of evil;¹ and for Allāh is the highest attribute. And He is Exalted in Might, the Wise.

Look how they strike for you comparisons;¹ but they have strayed, so they cannot [find] a way.

And they do not come to you with an example [i.e., argument] except that We bring you the truth and the best explanation.

And he presents for Us an example¹ and forgets his [own] creation. He says, "Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?"

Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allāh; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allāh and [His] pleasure. Their sign is in their faces from the effect of prostration [i.e., prayer]. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers - so that He [i.e., Allāh] may enrage by them¹ the disbelievers. Allāh has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward.
