وَلَاتَقُولُواْلِمَنيُقۡتَلُفِيسَبِيلِٱللَّهِأَمۡوَٰتُۢۚبَلۡأَحۡيَآءٞوَلَٰكِنلَّاتَشۡعُرُونَ١٥٤
Saheeh International

And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allāh, "They are dead." Rather, they are alive, but you perceive [it] not.

وَلَاWala
تَقُولُوا۟taqooloo
لِمَنliman
يُقْتَلُyuqtalu
فِىfee
سَبِيلِsabeeli
ٱللَّهِAllahi
أَمْوَٰتٌۢ ۚamwatun
بَلْbal
أَحْيَآءٌۭahyaon
وَلَـٰكِنwalakin
لَّاla
تَشْعُرُونَtashAAuroona
وَلَاتَحۡسَبَنَّٱلَّذِينَقُتِلُواْفِيسَبِيلِٱللَّهِأَمۡوَٰتَۢاۚبَلۡأَحۡيَآءٌعِندَرَبِّهِمۡيُرۡزَقُونَ١٦٩
Saheeh International

And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allāh as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision,

وَلَاWala
تَحْسَبَنَّtahsabanna
ٱلَّذِينَallatheena
قُتِلُوا۟qutiloo
فِىfee
سَبِيلِsabeeli
ٱللَّهِAllahi
أَمْوَٰتًۢا ۚamwatan
بَلْbal
أَحْيَآءٌahyaon
عِندَAAinda
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim
يُرْزَقُونَyurzaqoona
كُلُّنَفۡسٖذَآئِقَةُٱلۡمَوۡتِۗوَإِنَّمَاتُوَفَّوۡنَأُجُورَكُمۡيَوۡمَٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِۖفَمَنزُحۡزِحَعَنِٱلنَّارِوَأُدۡخِلَٱلۡجَنَّةَفَقَدۡفَازَۗوَمَاٱلۡحَيَوٰةُٱلدُّنۡيَآإِلَّامَتَٰعُٱلۡغُرُورِ١٨٥
Saheeh International

Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion.

كُلُّKullu
نَفْسٍۢnafsin
ذَآئِقَةُthaiqatu
ٱلْمَوْتِ ۗalmawti
وَإِنَّمَاwainnama
تُوَفَّوْنَtuwaffawna
أُجُورَكُمْojoorakum
يَوْمَyawma
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۖalqiyamati
فَمَنfaman
زُحْزِحَzuhziha
عَنِAAani
ٱلنَّارِalnnari
وَأُدْخِلَwaodkhila
ٱلْجَنَّةَaljannata
فَقَدْfaqad
فَازَ ۗfaza
وَمَاwama
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُalhayatu
ٱلدُّنْيَآalddunya
إِلَّاilla
مَتَـٰعُmataAAu
ٱلْغُرُورِalghuroori
رَّبَّنَآإِنَّنَاسَمِعۡنَامُنَادِيٗايُنَادِيلِلۡإِيمَٰنِأَنۡءَامِنُواْبِرَبِّكُمۡفَـَٔامَنَّاۚرَبَّنَافَٱغۡفِرۡلَنَاذُنُوبَنَاوَكَفِّرۡعَنَّاسَيِّـَٔاتِنَاوَتَوَفَّنَامَعَٱلۡأَبۡرَارِ١٩٣
Saheeh International

Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] calling to faith, [saying], 'Believe in your Lord,' and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die among the righteous.

رَّبَّنَآRabbana
إِنَّنَاinnana
سَمِعْنَاsamiAAna
مُنَادِيًۭاmunadiyan
يُنَادِىyunadee
لِلْإِيمَـٰنِlileemani
أَنْan
ءَامِنُوا۟aminoo
بِرَبِّكُمْbirabbikum
فَـَٔامَنَّا ۚfaamanna
رَبَّنَاrabbana
فَٱغْفِرْfaighfir
لَنَاlana
ذُنُوبَنَاthunoobana
وَكَفِّرْwakaffir
عَنَّاAAanna
سَيِّـَٔاتِنَاsayyiatina
وَتَوَفَّنَاwatawaffana
مَعَmaAAa
ٱلْأَبْرَارِalabrari
فَٱسۡتَجَابَلَهُمۡرَبُّهُمۡأَنِّيلَآأُضِيعُعَمَلَعَٰمِلٖمِّنكُممِّنذَكَرٍأَوۡأُنثَىٰۖبَعۡضُكُممِّنۢبَعۡضٖۖفَٱلَّذِينَهَاجَرُواْوَأُخۡرِجُواْمِندِيَٰرِهِمۡوَأُوذُواْفِيسَبِيلِيوَقَٰتَلُواْوَقُتِلُواْلَأُكَفِّرَنَّعَنۡهُمۡسَيِّـَٔاتِهِمۡوَلَأُدۡخِلَنَّهُمۡجَنَّٰتٖتَجۡرِيمِنتَحۡتِهَاٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُثَوَابٗامِّنۡعِندِٱللَّهِۚوَٱللَّهُعِندَهُۥحُسۡنُٱلثَّوَابِ١٩٥
Saheeh International

And their Lord responded to them, "Never will I allow to be lost the work of [any] worker among you, whether male or female; you are of one another. So those who emigrated or were evicted from their homes or were harmed in My cause or fought or were killed - I will surely remove from them their misdeeds, and I will surely admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow as reward from Allāh, and Allāh has with Him the best reward."

فَٱسْتَجَابَFaistajaba
لَهُمْlahum
رَبُّهُمْrabbuhum
أَنِّىannee
لَآla
أُضِيعُodeeAAu
عَمَلَAAamala
عَـٰمِلٍۢAAamilin
مِّنكُمminkum
مِّنmin
ذَكَرٍthakarin
أَوْaw
أُنثَىٰ ۖontha
بَعْضُكُمbaAAdukum
مِّنۢmin
بَعْضٍۢ ۖbaAAdin
فَٱلَّذِينَfaallatheena
هَاجَرُوا۟hajaroo
وَأُخْرِجُوا۟waokhrijoo
مِنmin
دِيَـٰرِهِمْdiyarihim
وَأُوذُوا۟waoothoo
فِىfee
سَبِيلِىsabeelee
وَقَـٰتَلُوا۟waqataloo
وَقُتِلُوا۟waqutiloo
لَأُكَفِّرَنَّlaokaffiranna
عَنْهُمْAAanhum
سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْsayyiatihim
وَلَأُدْخِلَنَّهُمْwalaodkhilannahum
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannatin
تَجْرِىtajree
مِنmin
تَحْتِهَاtahtiha
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُalanharu
ثَوَابًۭاthawaban
مِّنْmin
عِندِAAindi
ٱللَّهِ ۗAllahi
وَٱللَّهُwaAllahu
عِندَهُۥAAindahu
حُسْنُhusnu
ٱلثَّوَابِalththawabi
۞ وَمَنيُهَاجِرۡفِيسَبِيلِٱللَّهِيَجِدۡفِيٱلۡأَرۡضِمُرَٰغَمٗاكَثِيرٗاوَسَعَةٗۚوَمَنيَخۡرُجۡمِنۢبَيۡتِهِۦمُهَاجِرًاإِلَىٱللَّهِوَرَسُولِهِۦثُمَّيُدۡرِكۡهُٱلۡمَوۡتُفَقَدۡوَقَعَأَجۡرُهُۥعَلَىٱللَّهِۗوَكَانَٱللَّهُغَفُورٗارَّحِيمٗا١٠٠
Saheeh International

And whoever emigrates for the cause of Allāh will find on the earth many [alternative] locations and abundance. And whoever leaves his home as an emigrant to Allāh and His Messenger and then death overtakes him - his reward has already become incumbent upon Allāh. And Allāh is ever Forgiving and Merciful.

۞ وَمَنWaman
يُهَاجِرْyuhajir
فِىfee
سَبِيلِsabeeli
ٱللَّهِAllahi
يَجِدْyajid
فِىfee
ٱلْأَرْضِalardi
مُرَٰغَمًۭاmuraghaman
كَثِيرًۭاkatheeran
وَسَعَةًۭ ۚwasaAAatan
وَمَنwaman
يَخْرُجْyakhruj
مِنۢmin
بَيْتِهِۦbaytihi
مُهَاجِرًاmuhajiran
إِلَىila
ٱللَّهِAllahi
وَرَسُولِهِۦwarasoolihi
ثُمَّthumma
يُدْرِكْهُyudrikhu
ٱلْمَوْتُalmawtu
فَقَدْfaqad
وَقَعَwaqaAAa
أَجْرُهُۥajruhu
عَلَىAAala
ٱللَّهِ ۗAllahi
وَكَانَwakana
ٱللَّهُAllahu
غَفُورًۭاghafooran
رَّحِيمًۭاraheeman
أَيۡنَمَاتَكُونُواْيُدۡرِككُّمُٱلۡمَوۡتُوَلَوۡكُنتُمۡفِيبُرُوجٖمُّشَيَّدَةٖۗوَإِنتُصِبۡهُمۡحَسَنَةٞيَقُولُواْهَٰذِهِۦمِنۡعِندِٱللَّهِۖوَإِنتُصِبۡهُمۡسَيِّئَةٞيَقُولُواْهَٰذِهِۦمِنۡعِندِكَۚقُلۡكُلّٞمِّنۡعِندِٱللَّهِۖفَمَالِهَٰٓؤُلَآءِٱلۡقَوۡمِلَايَكَادُونَيَفۡقَهُونَحَدِيثٗا٧٨
Saheeh International

Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be within towers of lofty construction. But if good comes to them, they say, "This is from Allāh"; and if evil befalls them, they say,1 "This is from you." Say, "All [things] are from Allāh." So what is [the matter] with those people that they can hardly understand any statement?

أَيْنَمَاAynama
تَكُونُوا۟takoonoo
يُدْرِككُّمُyudrikkumu
ٱلْمَوْتُalmawtu
وَلَوْwalaw
كُنتُمْkuntum
فِىfee
بُرُوجٍۢburoojin
مُّشَيَّدَةٍۢ ۗmushayyadatin
وَإِنwain
تُصِبْهُمْtusibhum
حَسَنَةٌۭhasanatun
يَقُولُوا۟yaqooloo
هَـٰذِهِۦhathihi
مِنْmin
عِندِAAindi
ٱللَّهِ ۖAllahi
وَإِنwain
تُصِبْهُمْtusibhum
سَيِّئَةٌۭsayyiatun
يَقُولُوا۟yaqooloo
هَـٰذِهِۦhathihi
مِنْmin
عِندِكَ ۚAAindika
قُلْqul
كُلٌّۭkullun
مِّنْmin
عِندِAAindi
ٱللَّهِ ۖAllahi
فَمَالِfamali
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhaolai
ٱلْقَوْمِalqawmi
لَاla
يَكَادُونَyakadoona
يَفْقَهُونَyafqahoona
حَدِيثًۭاhadeethan
ذَٰلِكَأَنلَّمۡيَكُنرَّبُّكَمُهۡلِكَٱلۡقُرَىٰبِظُلۡمٖوَأَهۡلُهَاغَٰفِلُونَ١٣١
Saheeh International

That is because your Lord would not destroy the cities for wrongdoing1 while their people were unaware.

ذَٰلِكَThalika
أَنan
لَّمْlam
يَكُنyakun
رَّبُّكَrabbuka
مُهْلِكَmuhlika
ٱلْقُرَىٰalqura
بِظُلْمٍۢbithulmin
وَأَهْلُهَاwaahluha
غَـٰفِلُونَghafiloona
وَمَاكَانَٱللَّهُلِيُضِلَّقَوۡمَۢابَعۡدَإِذۡهَدَىٰهُمۡحَتَّىٰيُبَيِّنَلَهُممَّايَتَّقُونَۚإِنَّٱللَّهَبِكُلِّشَيۡءٍعَلِيمٌ١١٥
Saheeh International

And Allāh would not let a people stray after He has guided them until He makes clear to them what they should avoid. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of all things.

وَمَاWama
كَانَkana
ٱللَّهُAllahu
لِيُضِلَّliyudilla
قَوْمًۢاqawman
بَعْدَbaAAda
إِذْith
هَدَىٰهُمْhadahum
حَتَّىٰhatta
يُبَيِّنَyubayyina
لَهُمlahum
مَّاma
يَتَّقُونَ ۚyattaqoona
إِنَّinna
ٱللَّهَAllaha
بِكُلِّbikulli
شَىْءٍshayin
عَلِيمٌAAaleemun
وَلِكُلِّأُمَّةٖرَّسُولٞۖفَإِذَاجَآءَرَسُولُهُمۡقُضِيَبَيۡنَهُمبِٱلۡقِسۡطِوَهُمۡلَايُظۡلَمُونَ٤٧
Saheeh International

And for every nation is a messenger. So when their messenger comes,1 it will be judged between them in justice, and they will not be wronged.

وَلِكُلِّWalikulli
أُمَّةٍۢommatin
رَّسُولٌۭ ۖrasoolun
فَإِذَاfaitha
جَآءَjaa
رَسُولُهُمْrasooluhum
قُضِىَqudiya
بَيْنَهُمbaynahum
بِٱلْقِسْطِbialqisti
وَهُمْwahum
لَاla
يُظْلَمُونَyuthlamoona
11:117
Open Ayah
وَمَاكَانَرَبُّكَلِيُهۡلِكَٱلۡقُرَىٰبِظُلۡمٖوَأَهۡلُهَامُصۡلِحُونَ١١٧
Saheeh International

And your Lord would not have destroyed the cities unjustly while their people were reformers.

وَمَاWama
كَانَkana
رَبُّكَrabbuka
لِيُهْلِكَliyuhlika
ٱلْقُرَىٰalqura
بِظُلْمٍۢbithulmin
وَأَهْلُهَاwaahluha
مُصْلِحُونَmuslihoona
وَمَآأَهۡلَكۡنَامِنقَرۡيَةٍإِلَّاوَلَهَاكِتَابٞمَّعۡلُومٞ٤
Saheeh International

And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree.

وَمَآWama
أَهْلَكْنَاahlakna
مِنmin
قَرْيَةٍqaryatin
إِلَّاilla
وَلَهَاwalaha
كِتَابٌۭkitabun
مَّعْلُومٌۭmaAAloomun
16:119
Open Ayah
ثُمَّإِنَّرَبَّكَلِلَّذِينَعَمِلُواْٱلسُّوٓءَبِجَهَٰلَةٖثُمَّتَابُواْمِنۢبَعۡدِذَٰلِكَوَأَصۡلَحُوٓاْإِنَّرَبَّكَمِنۢبَعۡدِهَالَغَفُورٞرَّحِيمٌ١١٩
Saheeh International

Then, indeed your Lord, to those who have done wrong out of ignorance and then repent after that and correct themselves - indeed, your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.

ثُمَّThumma
إِنَّinna
رَبَّكَrabbaka
لِلَّذِينَlillatheena
عَمِلُوا۟AAamiloo
ٱلسُّوٓءَalssooa
بِجَهَـٰلَةٍۢbijahalatin
ثُمَّthumma
تَابُوا۟taboo
مِنۢmin
بَعْدِbaAAdi
ذَٰلِكَthalika
وَأَصْلَحُوٓا۟waaslahoo
إِنَّinna
رَبَّكَrabbaka
مِنۢmin
بَعْدِهَاbaAAdiha
لَغَفُورٌۭlaghafoorun
رَّحِيمٌraheemun
مَّنِٱهۡتَدَىٰفَإِنَّمَايَهۡتَدِيلِنَفۡسِهِۦۖوَمَنضَلَّفَإِنَّمَايَضِلُّعَلَيۡهَاۚوَلَاتَزِرُوَازِرَةٞوِزۡرَأُخۡرَىٰۗوَمَاكُنَّامُعَذِّبِينَحَتَّىٰنَبۡعَثَرَسُولٗا١٥
Saheeh International

Whoever is guided is only guided for [the benefit of] his soul. And whoever errs only errs against it. And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. And never would We punish until We sent a messenger.

مَّنِMani
ٱهْتَدَىٰihtada
فَإِنَّمَاfainnama
يَهْتَدِىyahtadee
لِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖlinafsihi
وَمَنwaman
ضَلَّdalla
فَإِنَّمَاfainnama
يَضِلُّyadillu
عَلَيْهَا ۚAAalayha
وَلَاwala
تَزِرُtaziru
وَازِرَةٌۭwaziratun
وِزْرَwizra
أُخْرَىٰ ۗokhra
وَمَاwama
كُنَّاkunna
مُعَذِّبِينَmuAAaththibeena
حَتَّىٰhatta
نَبْعَثَnabAAatha
رَسُولًۭاrasoolan
كُلُّنَفۡسٖذَآئِقَةُٱلۡمَوۡتِۗوَنَبۡلُوكُمبِٱلشَّرِّوَٱلۡخَيۡرِفِتۡنَةٗۖوَإِلَيۡنَاتُرۡجَعُونَ٣٥
Saheeh International

Every soul will taste death. And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned.

كُلُّKullu
نَفْسٍۢnafsin
ذَآئِقَةُthaiqatu
ٱلْمَوْتِ ۗalmawti
وَنَبْلُوكُمwanablookum
بِٱلشَّرِّbialshsharri
وَٱلْخَيْرِwaalkhayri
فِتْنَةًۭ ۖfitnatan
وَإِلَيْنَاwailayna
تُرْجَعُونَturjaAAoona
وَٱلَّذِينَهَاجَرُواْفِيسَبِيلِٱللَّهِثُمَّقُتِلُوٓاْأَوۡمَاتُواْلَيَرۡزُقَنَّهُمُٱللَّهُرِزۡقًاحَسَنٗاۚوَإِنَّٱللَّهَلَهُوَخَيۡرُٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ٥٨
Saheeh International

And those who emigrated for the cause of Allāh and then were killed or died - Allāh will surely provide for them a good provision. And indeed, it is Allāh who is the best of providers.

وَٱلَّذِينَWaallatheena
هَاجَرُوا۟hajaroo
فِىfee
سَبِيلِsabeeli
ٱللَّهِAllahi
ثُمَّthumma
قُتِلُوٓا۟qutiloo
أَوْaw
مَاتُوا۟matoo
لَيَرْزُقَنَّهُمُlayarzuqannahumu
ٱللَّهُAllahu
رِزْقًاrizqan
حَسَنًۭا ۚhasanan
وَإِنَّwainna
ٱللَّهَAllaha
لَهُوَlahuwa
خَيْرُkhayru
ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَalrraziqeena
وَمَاكَانَرَبُّكَمُهۡلِكَٱلۡقُرَىٰحَتَّىٰيَبۡعَثَفِيٓأُمِّهَارَسُولٗايَتۡلُواْعَلَيۡهِمۡءَايَٰتِنَاۚوَمَاكُنَّامُهۡلِكِيٱلۡقُرَىٰٓإِلَّاوَأَهۡلُهَاظَٰلِمُونَ٥٩
Saheeh International

And never would your Lord have destroyed the cities until He had sent to their mother [i.e., principal city] a messenger reciting to them Our verses. And We would not destroy the cities except while their people were wrongdoers.

وَمَاWama
كَانَkana
رَبُّكَrabbuka
مُهْلِكَmuhlika
ٱلْقُرَىٰalqura
حَتَّىٰhatta
يَبْعَثَyabAAatha
فِىٓfee
أُمِّهَاommiha
رَسُولًۭاrasoolan
يَتْلُوا۟yatloo
عَلَيْهِمْAAalayhim
ءَايَـٰتِنَا ۚayatina
وَمَاwama
كُنَّاkunna
مُهْلِكِىmuhlikee
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓalqura
إِلَّاilla
وَأَهْلُهَاwaahluha
ظَـٰلِمُونَthalimoona
قُللَّنيَنفَعَكُمُٱلۡفِرَارُإِنفَرَرۡتُممِّنَٱلۡمَوۡتِأَوِٱلۡقَتۡلِوَإِذٗالَّاتُمَتَّعُونَإِلَّاقَلِيلٗا١٦
Saheeh International

Say, [O Muḥammad], "Never will fleeing benefit you if you should flee from death or killing; and then [if you did], you would not be given enjoyment [of life] except for a little."

قُلQul
لَّنlan
يَنفَعَكُمُyanfaAAakumu
ٱلْفِرَارُalfiraru
إِنin
فَرَرْتُمfarartum
مِّنَmina
ٱلْمَوْتِalmawti
أَوِawi
ٱلْقَتْلِalqatli
وَإِذًۭاwaithan
لَّاla
تُمَتَّعُونَtumattaAAoona
إِلَّاilla
قَلِيلًۭاqaleelan
أَشِحَّةًعَلَيۡكُمۡۖفَإِذَاجَآءَٱلۡخَوۡفُرَأَيۡتَهُمۡيَنظُرُونَإِلَيۡكَتَدُورُأَعۡيُنُهُمۡكَٱلَّذِييُغۡشَىٰعَلَيۡهِمِنَٱلۡمَوۡتِۖفَإِذَاذَهَبَٱلۡخَوۡفُسَلَقُوكُمبِأَلۡسِنَةٍحِدَادٍأَشِحَّةًعَلَىٱلۡخَيۡرِۚأُوْلَٰٓئِكَلَمۡيُؤۡمِنُواْفَأَحۡبَطَٱللَّهُأَعۡمَٰلَهُمۡۚوَكَانَذَٰلِكَعَلَىٱللَّهِيَسِيرٗا١٩
Saheeh International

Indisposed1 toward you. And when fear comes, you see them looking at you, their eyes revolving like one being overcome by death. But when fear departs, they lash you with sharp tongues, indisposed toward [any] good. Those have not believed, so Allāh has rendered their deeds worthless, and ever is that, for Allāh, easy.

أَشِحَّةًAshihhatan
عَلَيْكُمْ ۖAAalaykum
فَإِذَاfaitha
جَآءَjaa
ٱلْخَوْفُalkhawfu
رَأَيْتَهُمْraaytahum
يَنظُرُونَyanthuroona
إِلَيْكَilayka
تَدُورُtadooru
أَعْيُنُهُمْaAAyunuhum
كَٱلَّذِىkaallathee
يُغْشَىٰyughsha
عَلَيْهِAAalayhi
مِنَmina
ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖalmawti
فَإِذَاfaitha
ذَهَبَthahaba
ٱلْخَوْفُalkhawfu
سَلَقُوكُمsalaqookum
بِأَلْسِنَةٍbialsinatin
حِدَادٍhidadin
أَشِحَّةًashihhatan
عَلَىAAala
ٱلْخَيْرِ ۚalkhayri
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَolaika
لَمْlam
يُؤْمِنُوا۟yuminoo
فَأَحْبَطَfaahbata
ٱللَّهُAllahu
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ ۚaAAmalahum
وَكَانَwakana
ذَٰلِكَthalika
عَلَىAAala
ٱللَّهِAllahi
يَسِيرًۭاyaseeran
مِّنَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَرِجَالٞصَدَقُواْمَاعَٰهَدُواْٱللَّهَعَلَيۡهِۖفَمِنۡهُممَّنقَضَىٰنَحۡبَهُۥوَمِنۡهُممَّنيَنتَظِرُۖوَمَابَدَّلُواْتَبۡدِيلٗا٢٣
Saheeh International

Among the believers are men true to what they promised Allāh. Among them is he who has fulfilled his vow [to the death], and among them is he who awaits [his chance]. And they did not alter [the terms of their commitment] by any alteration -

مِّنَMina
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَalmumineena
رِجَالٌۭrijalun
صَدَقُوا۟sadaqoo
مَاma
عَـٰهَدُوا۟AAahadoo
ٱللَّهَAllaha
عَلَيْهِ ۖAAalayhi
فَمِنْهُمfaminhum
مَّنman
قَضَىٰqada
نَحْبَهُۥnahbahu
وَمِنْهُمwaminhum
مَّنman
يَنتَظِرُ ۖyantathiru
وَمَاwama
بَدَّلُوا۟baddaloo
تَبْدِيلًۭاtabdeelan
لَايَذُوقُونَفِيهَاٱلۡمَوۡتَإِلَّاٱلۡمَوۡتَةَٱلۡأُولَىٰۖوَوَقَىٰهُمۡعَذَابَٱلۡجَحِيمِ٥٦
Saheeh International

They will not taste death therein except the first death, and He will have protected them from the punishment of Hellfire

لَاLa
يَذُوقُونَyathooqoona
فِيهَاfeeha
ٱلْمَوْتَalmawta
إِلَّاilla
ٱلْمَوْتَةَalmawtata
ٱلْأُولَىٰ ۖaloola
وَوَقَىٰهُمْwawaqahum
عَذَابَAAathaba
ٱلْجَحِيمِaljaheemi
فَكَيۡفَإِذَاتَوَفَّتۡهُمُٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُيَضۡرِبُونَوُجُوهَهُمۡوَأَدۡبَٰرَهُمۡ٢٧
Saheeh International

Then how [will it be] when the angels take them in death, striking their faces and their backs?

فَكَيْفَFakayfa
إِذَاitha
تَوَفَّتْهُمُtawaffathumu
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُalmalaikatu
يَضْرِبُونَyadriboona
وُجُوهَهُمْwujoohahum
وَأَدْبَـٰرَهُمْwaadbarahum
فَإِذَالَقِيتُمُٱلَّذِينَكَفَرُواْفَضَرۡبَٱلرِّقَابِحَتَّىٰٓإِذَآأَثۡخَنتُمُوهُمۡفَشُدُّواْٱلۡوَثَاقَفَإِمَّامَنَّۢابَعۡدُوَإِمَّافِدَآءًحَتَّىٰتَضَعَٱلۡحَرۡبُأَوۡزَارَهَاۚذَٰلِكَۖوَلَوۡيَشَآءُٱللَّهُلَٱنتَصَرَمِنۡهُمۡوَلَٰكِنلِّيَبۡلُوَاْبَعۡضَكُمبِبَعۡضٖۗوَٱلَّذِينَقُتِلُواْفِيسَبِيلِٱللَّهِفَلَنيُضِلَّأَعۡمَٰلَهُمۡ٤
Saheeh International

So when you meet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure [their] bonds,1 and either [confer] favor2 afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens.3 That [is the command]. And if Allāh had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them [Himself], but [He ordered armed struggle] to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allāh - never will He waste their deeds.

فَإِذَاFaitha
لَقِيتُمُlaqeetumu
ٱلَّذِينَallatheena
كَفَرُوا۟kafaroo
فَضَرْبَfadarba
ٱلرِّقَابِalrriqabi
حَتَّىٰٓhatta
إِذَآitha
أَثْخَنتُمُوهُمْathkhantumoohum
فَشُدُّوا۟fashuddoo
ٱلْوَثَاقَalwathaqa
فَإِمَّاfaimma
مَنًّۢاmannan
بَعْدُbaAAdu
وَإِمَّاwaimma
فِدَآءًfidaan
حَتَّىٰhatta
تَضَعَtadaAAa
ٱلْحَرْبُalharbu
أَوْزَارَهَا ۚawzaraha
ذَٰلِكَthalika
وَلَوْwalaw
يَشَآءُyashao
ٱللَّهُAllahu
لَٱنتَصَرَlaintasara
مِنْهُمْminhum
وَلَـٰكِنwalakin
لِّيَبْلُوَا۟liyabluwa
بَعْضَكُمbaAAdakum
بِبَعْضٍۢ ۗbibaAAdin
وَٱلَّذِينَwaallatheena
قُتِلُوا۟qutiloo
فِىfee
سَبِيلِsabeeli
ٱللَّهِAllahi
فَلَنfalan
يُضِلَّyudilla
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaAAmalahum
نَحۡنُقَدَّرۡنَابَيۡنَكُمُٱلۡمَوۡتَوَمَانَحۡنُبِمَسۡبُوقِينَ٦٠
Saheeh International

We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone

نَحْنُNahnu
قَدَّرْنَاqaddarna
بَيْنَكُمُbaynakumu
ٱلْمَوْتَalmawta
وَمَاwama
نَحْنُnahnu
بِمَسْبُوقِينَbimasbooqeena
وَأَنتُمۡحِينَئِذٖتَنظُرُونَ٨٤
Saheeh International

And you are at that time looking on -

وَأَنتُمْWaantum
حِينَئِذٍۢheenaithin
تَنظُرُونَtanthuroona
وَنَحۡنُأَقۡرَبُإِلَيۡهِمِنكُمۡوَلَٰكِنلَّاتُبۡصِرُونَ٨٥
Saheeh International

And We [i.e., Our angels] are nearer to him than you, but you do not see -

وَنَحْنُWanahnu
أَقْرَبُaqrabu
إِلَيْهِilayhi
مِنكُمْminkum
وَلَـٰكِنwalakin
لَّاla
تُبْصِرُونَtubsiroona
فَلَوۡلَآإِنكُنتُمۡغَيۡرَمَدِينِينَ٨٦
Saheeh International

Then why do you not, if you are not to be recompensed,

فَلَوْلَآFalawla
إِنin
كُنتُمْkuntum
غَيْرَghayra
مَدِينِينَmadeeneena
تَرۡجِعُونَهَآإِنكُنتُمۡصَٰدِقِينَ٨٧
Saheeh International

Bring it back,1 if you should be truthful?

تَرْجِعُونَهَآTarjiAAoonaha
إِنin
كُنتُمْkuntum
صَـٰدِقِينَsadiqeena
وَأَنفِقُواْمِنمَّارَزَقۡنَٰكُممِّنقَبۡلِأَنيَأۡتِيَأَحَدَكُمُٱلۡمَوۡتُفَيَقُولَرَبِّلَوۡلَآأَخَّرۡتَنِيٓإِلَىٰٓأَجَلٖقَرِيبٖفَأَصَّدَّقَوَأَكُنمِّنَٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ١٠
Saheeh International

And spend [in the way of Allāh] from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, "My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be of the righteous."

وَأَنفِقُوا۟Waanfiqoo
مِنmin
مَّاma
رَزَقْنَـٰكُمrazaqnakum
مِّنmin
قَبْلِqabli
أَنan
يَأْتِىَyatiya
أَحَدَكُمُahadakumu
ٱلْمَوْتُalmawtu
فَيَقُولَfayaqoola
رَبِّrabbi
لَوْلَآlawla
أَخَّرْتَنِىٓakhkhartanee
إِلَىٰٓila
أَجَلٍۢajalin
قَرِيبٍۢqareebin
فَأَصَّدَّقَfaassaddaqa
وَأَكُنwaakun
مِّنَmina
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَalssaliheena
وَٱلۡتَفَّتِٱلسَّاقُبِٱلسَّاقِ٢٩
Saheeh International

And the leg is wound about the leg,1

وَٱلْتَفَّتِWailtaffati
ٱلسَّاقُalssaqu
بِٱلسَّاقِbialssaqi
