بَلۡقَالُوٓاْأَضۡغَٰثُأَحۡلَٰمِۭبَلِٱفۡتَرَىٰهُبَلۡهُوَشَاعِرٞفَلۡيَأۡتِنَابِـَٔايَةٖكَمَآأُرۡسِلَٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ٥
Saheeh International

But they say, "[The revelation is but] a mixture of false dreams; rather, he has invented it; rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign just as the previous [messengers] were sent [with miracles]."

بَلْBal
قَالُوٓا۟qaloo
أَضْغَـٰثُadghathu
أَحْلَـٰمٍۭahlamin
بَلِbali
ٱفْتَرَىٰهُiftarahu
بَلْbal
هُوَhuwa
شَاعِرٌۭshaAAirun
فَلْيَأْتِنَاfalyatina
بِـَٔايَةٍۢbiayatin
كَمَآkama
أُرْسِلَorsila
ٱلْأَوَّلُونَalawwaloona
26:224
Open Ayah
وَٱلشُّعَرَآءُيَتَّبِعُهُمُٱلۡغَاوُۥنَ٢٢٤
Saheeh International

And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them.

وَٱلشُّعَرَآءُWaalshshuAAarao
يَتَّبِعُهُمُyattabiAAuhumu
ٱلْغَاوُۥنَalghawoona
26:225
Open Ayah
أَلَمۡتَرَأَنَّهُمۡفِيكُلِّوَادٖيَهِيمُونَ٢٢٥
Saheeh International

Do you not see that in every valley they roam1

أَلَمْAlam
تَرَtara
أَنَّهُمْannahum
فِىfee
كُلِّkulli
وَادٍۢwadin
يَهِيمُونَyaheemoona
26:226
Open Ayah
وَأَنَّهُمۡيَقُولُونَمَالَايَفۡعَلُونَ٢٢٦
Saheeh International

And that they say what they do not do? -

وَأَنَّهُمْWaannahum
يَقُولُونَyaqooloona
مَاma
لَاla
يَفْعَلُونَyafAAaloona
26:227
Open Ayah
إِلَّاٱلَّذِينَءَامَنُواْوَعَمِلُواْٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِوَذَكَرُواْٱللَّهَكَثِيرٗاوَٱنتَصَرُواْمِنۢبَعۡدِمَاظُلِمُواْۗوَسَيَعۡلَمُٱلَّذِينَظَلَمُوٓاْأَيَّمُنقَلَبٖيَنقَلِبُونَ٢٢٧
Saheeh International

Except those [poets] who believe and do righteous deeds and remember Allāh often and defend [the Muslims]1 after they were wronged. And those who have wronged are going to know to what [kind of] return they will be returned.

إِلَّاIlla
ٱلَّذِينَallatheena
ءَامَنُوا۟amanoo
وَعَمِلُوا۟waAAamiloo
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِalssalihati
وَذَكَرُوا۟wathakaroo
ٱللَّهَAllaha
كَثِيرًۭاkatheeran
وَٱنتَصَرُوا۟waintasaroo
مِنۢmin
بَعْدِbaAAdi
مَاma
ظُلِمُوا۟ ۗthulimoo
وَسَيَعْلَمُwasayaAAlamu
ٱلَّذِينَallatheena
ظَلَمُوٓا۟thalamoo
أَىَّayya
مُنقَلَبٍۢmunqalabin
يَنقَلِبُونَyanqaliboona
وَمَاعَلَّمۡنَٰهُٱلشِّعۡرَوَمَايَنۢبَغِيلَهُۥٓۚإِنۡهُوَإِلَّاذِكۡرٞوَقُرۡءَانٞمُّبِينٞ٦٩
Saheeh International

And We did not give him [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] knowledge of poetry, nor is it befitting for him. It is not but a message and a clear Qur’ān

وَمَاWama
عَلَّمْنَـٰهُAAallamnahu
ٱلشِّعْرَalshshiAAra
وَمَاwama
يَنۢبَغِىyanbaghee
لَهُۥٓ ۚlahu
إِنْin
هُوَhuwa
إِلَّاilla
ذِكْرٌۭthikrun
وَقُرْءَانٌۭwaquranun
مُّبِينٌۭmubeenun
وَيَقُولُونَأَئِنَّالَتَارِكُوٓاْءَالِهَتِنَالِشَاعِرٖمَّجۡنُونِۭ٣٦
Saheeh International

And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?"

وَيَقُولُونَWayaqooloona
أَئِنَّاainna
لَتَارِكُوٓا۟latarikoo
ءَالِهَتِنَاalihatina
لِشَاعِرٍۢlishaAAirin
مَّجْنُونٍۭmajnoonin
أَمۡيَقُولُونَشَاعِرٞنَّتَرَبَّصُبِهِۦرَيۡبَٱلۡمَنُونِ٣٠
Saheeh International

Or do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time"?1

أَمْAm
يَقُولُونَyaqooloona
شَاعِرٌۭshaAAirun
نَّتَرَبَّصُnatarabbasu
بِهِۦbihi
رَيْبَrayba
ٱلْمَنُونِalmanooni
وَمَاهُوَبِقَوۡلِشَاعِرٖۚقَلِيلٗامَّاتُؤۡمِنُونَ٤١
Saheeh International

And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.

وَمَاWama
هُوَhuwa
بِقَوْلِbiqawli
شَاعِرٍۢ ۚshaAAirin
قَلِيلًۭاqaleelan
مَّاma
تُؤْمِنُونَtuminoona
